Right behind a park in Africa where visitors can encounter gorillas and the world's largest lava lake, and right ahead of a wine-producing region of South America, Grand Rapids ranks No. 20 on a New York Times list of 52 Places to Go in 2016.
The rundown of top travel destinations says the Furniture City is "flourishing thanks to a confluence of urban revival and arts funding." It mentions Herman Miller, Steelcase, ArtPrize, the Downtown Market, Slows Bar-B-Q and craft breweries, and features video of a garden at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.
Grand Rapids is one of 10 U.S. destinations on the list, ranking behind only Park City, Utah and Theodore Roosevelt National Park in South Dakota. The top destination for 2016, according to The Times: Mexico City.
